Lets Learn About Code Enforcement in Local Government » Community

code enforcement charlotte nc

These code officials can answer your code questions and offer guidance as you try to plan your project from conception to submittal. After your project is submitted for plan review or in the field for inspections, this team can still assist, however, the interpretations of your Plans Examiner or Field Inspector will take precedent. Furthermore, code enforcement always has to come up with new solutions to address new concerns, and we have to coordinate with different departments in a jurisdiction. Examples include, but are not limited to, public works, licensing, fire departments, building, finance, mayoral executive offices, city attorney, engineering, police or planning. There is no unique standard where code enforcement belongs, because we work with all. But gun violence is putting pressure on their relationship with Republican lawmakers, who are often proponents of looser gun laws.

In creating that committee, our goal is to help officers find resources, create legislation and develop much-needed training for those who need it. Code enforcement is a tough job, and it is not law enforcement. We do not carry guns, vests, or other weapons that may cause bodily harm or injury to others; our weapon is our strength and our ability to de-escalate situations. The Giffords Law Center’s Annual Gun Law Scorecard, which ranks and grades state gun laws, has found that gun violence in general and against police in particular is higher in states with looser gun laws.

The Greensboro Police Department shared posts on X, formerly known as Twitter. One wrote, "Know that your brothers and sisters in blue will have the watch from here." Another, saying "Law enforcement everywhere feels the heartache because, at the end of the day, we are one big family." But encouraging armed self-defense also creates deep expectations in the U.S. that gun ownership is absolute, experts say. It also makes it hard to tell good guys from bad guys – especially when police can no longer confront citizens wearing guns in public. Between 2015 and 2021, the number of concealed-carry permit holders in the United States grew from 14 million to 21.5 million.

Four law officers serving a warrant for a felon wanted for possessing a firearm were killed and four other officers were wounded in a shootout Monday at a North Carolina home, police said. A building setback is the required distance that a building (structure) must be located from the property lines of the adjacent property. The setbacks are determined by the appropriate zoning jurisdiction and based on the zoning district. Please contact the appropriate planning/zoning department having jurisdiction in your area. The Giffords Law Center’s Annual Gun Law Scorecard finds that gun violence in general and against police in particular is higher in states with relaxed gun laws. Looser gun laws can infuse tensions into scenarios like that in Charlotte, where police are trying to separate unlawful carriers from their guns. Due to Florida legislative changes in 2021, a code inspector may not initiate an investigation of a potential code violation based on an anonymous complaint.

If you have a septic system you should also check with Mecklenburg County Environmental Health to ensure the location of the pool doesn't interfere with the septic system. Standalone trade permits can also be applied for through the online Trade Internet Permitting (TIP) program. The Trades Internet Permits (TIP) online process allows the contractor to enter details of the work being performed for projects that do not require a Building permit, pay the permit fee and print the permits. This process is for limited & specific project scopes, and the system will alert you if your scope requires you to apply using the standard permit application process. Code Enforcement works to improve the appearance of Charlotte’s communities and maintain standards of living across the city. As many laws are getting to be criminal, laws are being more relaxed.

Voluntary compliance is always the main goal for a code enforcement officer. An effective officer uses their words and emotional intelligence to achieve this goal. Generally speaking, a code enforcement officer is responsible for evaluating, educating and, of course enforcing local codes. This can be in the form of answering questions, issuing warnings or giving actual citations for code violations.

The profession itself does not get as much recognition as it should for the amount of difference we make in the community. It is now more about regulating nuisances that hinder a community. As new laws emerge and new problems appear, there has to be a group that addresses these issues. The task force including U.S. marshals was trying to arrest a man for possession of a firearm by a felon.

The CIRC lobby staff will determine if the additional review will take place through OnSchedule Review or Small Commercial Review. They include the latest news on Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York, multiple officers shot and killed in Charlotte and much more. Behind such incidents, in part, is a changing atmosphere around gun rights. Law enforcement officers themselves sometimes walk a thin blue line between lobbying for gun restrictions and having a wider conservative worldview of gun rights as sacrosanct. A shootout that left four officers dead in North Carolina is a blow to the police community itself, at a time of strain between some officers and politicians over gun laws.

Earlier today, four brave law enforcement officers - including a Deputy U.S. Marshal - were killed in the line of duty. They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us. And we pray for the recoveries of the courageous officers who were wounded. The Official Cheer Worlds Results

I was raised in a small town called Stanley, NC. I was 8 years old and b/c of my athletic capabilities at a young age, I assumed there was no sport I couldn’t do. My mom signed me up for cheer and I went to every practice eager to learn the material, as I was determined to make the team. I practiced so much around the house; my parents would yell, “sit down”. I went in the gym with 4 other girls and put on a show, so I thought. I left out the audition feeling really good and excited about becoming a cheerleader.

All cheerleaders and football players were told to be back at the gym at 6pm to view the roster of those who made the team. When we returned to the gym to view the roster, I took off running to the door certain my name would be on the list. I scrolled through the names very fast, but did not see my name. I decided to slow down and look carefully b/c I must have passed my name, but my name wasn’t on the Cheerleader roster.

I assumed there was a mistake and perhaps my name was on the football roster in error. I began to scroll slowly through the football player’s roster, but there was no “Erica”. After that day I never tried out for cheer again, until I got to college. My sophomore year I decided to try out for the Luv-A-Bulls cheer team, who had just won the National Championship the previous year. I worked very hard to learn the material and was determine to give it my all come audition day. Shortly after auditioning both teams, JV and Varsity were selected.

Congressional Budget Office

WASHINGTON — The 118th United States Congress began its session on Jan. 3, 2023. In the 2022 midterm elections, the Democrats retained control of the Senate. Democrats have had the majority in the Senate since the 117th Congress. [T]he constitutional prerogative of the House has been held to apply to all the general appropriations bills, and the Senate's right to amend these has been allowed the widest possible scope.

Primary election results: Congressional and California

Still, 37 “no” votes, while a break from Washington’s ironclad support for the Jewish state, fell short of the opposition bloc progressives had hoped to muster. Thirty-nine Democrats had voted “no” on Friday on the rule to allow the foreign aid package to come to the House floor, a target that progressives just missed on Saturday on the Israel bill. Fourteen of those Democrats voted on Saturday in favor of aid to Israel, while 12 Democrats who voted to allow the package on the floor on Friday then cast votes against the funding itself. The Minority Whip is a member of the minority party who assists the minority leader in coordinating the party caucus in its responses to legislation and other matters.

The clerk also presides over the House at the beginning of each new Congress pending the election of a speaker. Another officer is the chief administrative officer, responsible for the day-to-day administrative support to the House of Representatives. The chairs of House committees, particularly influential standing committees such as Appropriations, Ways and Means, and Rules, are powerful but not officially part of the House leadership hierarchy. Until the post of majority leader was created, the chair of Ways and Means was the de facto majority leader. Historically, many territories have sent non-voting delegates to the House.

house of representatives majority

Prior to the election, the Republican Party had the majority in the U.S. Republicans held 246 seats compared to Democrats' 186 seats, while three seats were vacant. The Republican Party's majority was slightly reduced in 2016, as Democrats picked up six seats. The minority party offers opposition, but it is of marginal significance, typically because the minority is so small. Five activities illustrate how minority leaders seek to accomplish this primary goal. Since Snell's description, other responsibilities have been added to the job.

Republican Conference Chairman

The approval of the Senate and the House of Representatives is required for a bill to become law. Both Houses must pass the same version of the bill; if there are differences, they may be resolved by a conference committee, which includes members of both bodies. For the stages through which bills pass in the Senate, see Act of Congress.

The United States Congress

In 1995, Republicans under Newt Gingrich set a limit of three two-year terms for committee chairs. The chairman's powers are extensive; he controls the committee/subcommittee agenda, and may prevent the committee from dealing with a bill. The senior member of the minority party is known as the Ranking Member. In some committees like Appropriations, partisan disputes are few. A look at one minority leadership strategy—partisan opposition—may suggest why it might be employed in specific circumstances. The purposes of obstruction are several, such as frustrating the majority party's ability to govern or attracting press and media attention to the alleged ineffectiveness of the majority party.

Minority leadership (Democratic)

The legislation proceeded on Saturday to the Democratic-majority Senate, which passed a similar measure more than two months ago. Three Republicans on Wednesday joined Democrats in the Arizona House to vote to repeal the state's controversial 1864 ban on nearly all abortions, which was revived by a court ruling earlier this month and which only includes exceptions to save the life of the pregnant woman. Efforts to ban TikTok go back to the Trump administration, but the issue has been revived in recent months. The House already passed a similar bill in March — a bill that the Senate showed little interest in taking up. This new version expands the window for ByteDance to sell TikTok to nine months (compared to six months in the previous bill) and gives the president the ability to grant a single, additional 90-day extension.

A member of the Democratic Party, Gomez served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives announces bills that will be considered under suspension of the rules in that chamber. Under suspension, floor debate is limited, all floor amendments are prohibited, points of order against the bill are waived, and final passage requires a two-thirds majority vote. In Riverside County, veteran Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Corona) will probably face former federal prosecutor Will Rollins in a competitive race.

Santos’ time on Capitol Hill was fraught with controversies from day one, with reports that Santos embellished and fabricated parts of his resume and background. House Republicans are working with one of the narrowest margins in U.S. history. Following the election of Democrat Jennifer McClellan to fill a vacant seat in Virginia, they have just a nine-vote edge on Democrats, 222 to 213 (or 2.06 percentage points) – even slimmer than the Democrats’ House majority in the previous Congress, and the tightest margin in nine decades. The new session of Congress begins on Tuesday, this time with Republicans controlling the House while Democrats keep control of the Senate. NPR's congressional correspondent Deirdre Walsh joins us now to talk about this.

Republicans took back the House by a slim majority in the 2022 midterm elections. The last time Republicans had control of the House was in the 115th Congress. Power is nowhere concentrated; it is rather deliberately and of set policy scattered amongst many small chiefs. It is divided up, as it were, into forty-seven seigniories, in each of which a Standing Committee is the court-baron and its chairman lord-proprietor. These petty barons, some of them not a little powerful, but none of them within the reach of the full powers of rule, may at will exercise almost despotic sway within their own shires, and may sometimes threaten to convulse even the realm itself. The chaplain leads the House in prayer at the opening of the day.

As a result, the two chambers are considered equal, even though they have different structures and roles. Twenty-five Republicans voted against the fourth bill, which included measures that could lead to a ban on TikTok in the United States and that would redirect funds from seized Russian assets to help aid Ukraine. Democrats put up a big vote — 174 — in favor of this bill, which was intended to sweeten the overall package for conservatives.

How many Republicans are in the House? Majority and Democrat seats explained.

The approval of the Senate and the House of Representatives is required for a bill to become law. Both Houses must pass the same version of the bill; if there are differences, they may be resolved by a conference committee, which includes members of both bodies. For the stages through which bills pass in the Senate, see Act of Congress.

Granderson: Arizona’s indictment of Trump allies follows a sordid, racist history

Since the speaker is a partisan officer with substantial power to control the business of the House, the position is often used for partisan advantage. After the whips, the next ranking official in the House party's leadership is the party conference chair (styled as the Republican conference chair and Democratic caucus chair). While all Democrats voted in favor of aid to Ukraine and all but Ms. Tlaib supported funding to Taiwan, 37 left-leaning Democrats defected to vote against the Israel aid bill. They said before the vote that they opposed unfettered aid to Israel that could be used in its offensive in Gaza.

If you are traveling with a larger group to the Manhattan port, then your best bet is likely to look for an independent shuttle or private car service. These providers can offer private service to the port, usually for less per person than a taxi or other service, assuming you have seven or more passengers. The traditional passenger cruise terminal is located on the West Side of Manhattan, between West 48th and West 52nd streets.

During her first summer season, the Carnival Venezia offers an array of sailings from New York. Passengers have the opportunity to choose from four, five, six, and eight-day itineraries. Comparison of Transportation Options Between the Three Airports and the Manhattan Cruise Terminal

The ideal time to visit the New York Cruise Port is during the off-peak season, typically in late fall between Thanksgiving and Christmas. During this time, you can explore the Caribbean destinations without dealing with large crowds of tourists. Additionally, if you’re looking for waterfront dining with picturesque views, explore the South Street Seaport area, where seafood-centric Mexican cuisine and Brazilian bakeries await. Passengers can use the information available to ensure smooth sailing on their cruises from New York City. If you're being picked up by a private car, you'll need to go up one level to the pick-up/drop-off zone. Elevators to access the Customs Hall are located at the head of each pier.

Ship operators must spend ~USD 1 million to make a vessel shorepower-ready. A typical container ship in port uses about as much energy as a single terminal at Boston’s Logan Airport, while RMS Queen Mary 2 requires 13 megawatts (equal to the entire airport). In 2010, the NY-NJ Port Authority estimated that improvement to air quality could yield public health benefits of USD 99 million over 15 years.

The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal at Red Hook opened in April 2006 on the site of a former container terminal, south of Brooklyn Heights and not far from the entrance to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. It has one berth and is used mainly by Cunard's Queen Mary 2 and Princess Cruises. Visit our Brooklyn port profile for more information on cruising to or from Brooklyn. Recent investments have greatly improved the accessibility and convenience of Cape Liberty cruise terminal. Significant investment led to the creation of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and the renovation of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal at Pier 88 and Pier 90. A key enhancement included the redesign of Pier 88 passenger flow, with travelers now embarking only through the main level, and disembarking only through the ground level.

If you have purchased a Wi-Fi package directly with the cruise line you are sailing with, this will take effect after the embarkation process. Should you need Wi-Fi connection prior to sailing, it is recommended that you temporarily use your cellular data, or search for hotspots in the local Brooklyn area. The prices quoted by these companies can vary widely depending on what sort of service you need and exactly where you are coming from. However, as a general rule expect it to be a better value the larger a group you need to transport.

Besides taxis, there are buses at 49th, 50th and 42nd streets, but there is no subway service from the port. Regardless of how you arrive at these busy terminals, do so with plenty of time to spare. Check out the official locations of the3 cruise terminals – Port of New York. If you’re taking a car to the cruise terminal, you’ll enter from the Bowne and Imlay Street intersection.

Tonight, you’ll enjoy another splendid dinner in the excellent restaurant as the ship cruises majestically towards our next mooring, Breisach. Arrive in Basel, where your five-star floating hotel is moored in the picturesque historic center. The dedicated English-speaking crew will welcome you aboard your first-class floating hotel, ensuring you settle into your luxurious, well-equipped cabin and familiarise yourself with the ship. After dinner this evening, another sumptuous affair prepared by your chef, maybe sample a small Asbach – the famous brandy distilled in Rüdesheim – while watching the last of the ferries crossing the river in the moonlight glow. After lunch we moor in Rüdesheim, a classic Rhine wine village with crooked houses sloping down from wooded hillsides and terraced vineyards. During this afternoon’s delightful walking tour, witness the bustling marketplace, the half-timbered Klunkhardshof and Bromserburg Castle, which dates from 1275.

Whilst in Basel, take in some of the world-famous art, enjoy the museums and relax whilst dining alfresco. Switzerland is a global hub for many things, known for its banks and political prowess it is a resolute country with a strong working culture. However, when visiting here on a Rhine cruise, there is plenty to unpack and explore. Whether you choose to explore the myriad galleries and museums, wander through the scenic city streets or explore the breathtaking countryside, you’ll be sure to fall in love with what you have to see.

Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with Necessary Gear who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. On board the riverboat, smoking is permitted in a limited area of the Sun deck. Smoking (including e-Cigarettes) is not permitted in any cabin, the restaurant, the lounge or any other interior space. The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Later we’ll descend again by mountain railway before making the coach journey back to our ship in Basel. Still sailing upstream, the landscape becomes much wider and flatter, with gently rolling hills and vineyards that are home to the Liebfraumilch wines. Occasionally the excited chatter of birdlife breaks out as we pass oxbow lakes, long deserted by the river flow, which are now havens for over a hundred bird species.

No where did we ever see any signs of Virgin in Bimini. This Resorts World is on the Hilton property. There is a free trolley that makes 3 stops.

Infinity... Just a few thoughts from our recent cruise.

We decided to ride the trolley around before deciding where to get off. All 3 stops are within walking distance of each other. It looks to me like Hilton owns all the property in this section of the island. The trolley stops at the Hotel where you have an infinity pool, then the fishing pier where there are a couple shops, then Resorts World then the public beach.

From there, it's a breeze to get onto the tenders, or you can stay to get a drink and watch others get on and off -- talk about people-watching. It's somewhere people actually want to go, rather than escape. Reflection stands out with its exceptional variety of cabins, including its beautiful suites. They also receive complimentary access to Blu, which serves up healthier "spa cuisine."

I realize she is now 20 older and never received that extensive refit, but she has great bones. Wonderful pools and decks and this cruise is all about lounging on deck. I can deal with a little wear and tear.

But those who appreciate stylish, contemporary design will fall in love. In a few short years, Celebrity Edge has become a favorite for many adult cruisers seeking a sophisticated experience. While at max capacity the ship can hold up to 3,609 passengers, Reflection rarely feels crowded, as passengers tend to find their own spaces to hang out in. It's also well designed, and favorite spots like the excellent thermal spa are capacity controlled. Thanks for posting your thoughts. I'm sailing Infinity next month and am looking forward to a nice, relaxing cruise.

From Its Deck Plan to the Magic Carpet, Celebrity Edge Stays True to Its Name

When the ship is in Europe, you can expect to find a fairly international mix of passengers. We are on the Infinity right now. Save your money on le Petite Chef. It is great is when there are just a few guests. We tried it again on this cruise as we loved it in the past...it was awful.

Today's Birthdays - Enjoy your day!

When first proposed it was described as it's own private enclave. Then later descriptions implied it was just an extension of the Hilton and Resorts World Beaches, which is not the same as a totally separate enclave. If you look at Google maps Satellite view you'll get a definitive answer.

We actually asked our attendant not to deliver them after the first day because everything is on the app. The only thing we found different was the "sale" papers that come in them. The sales are not listed on the app. We were about 1800 passengers we were told. The Theater is really hit or miss.  As a high school teacher....

Our poor waiter was the only one in our section with 6 tables seated all within 30 minutes of each other. The food was nothing spectacular. Defiantly not Ruth's Chris or Jeff Ruby but not "Fancy like Applebee's" either LOL.

We sailed the second sailing and based on that I would have told anyone to run far far away from Infinity. Dinner near three hours most nights, just a few bar servers on the pool deck and only two bartenders at the pool bar so it was a long wait. No 'large' martini glasses so the martinis were half of their normal size.

The common ladies rooms were generally well kept. Some had attendants in them, some didn't. I love the hand towels and those were fresh.

Speaking only for us, we wouldn't be concerned. Cruise line, food, entertainment, condition, age, size of the ship is subjective. We never book or not book a cruise based on someone else's positive or negative opinions or experiences. Never been on a bad ship (no matter the cruise line) yet.

Infinity is/ was a nice  cozy shp but needs a serious overhaul from inside out. Thanks for posting about Infinity. Appreciate your thoughts on the ship and also about each of the ports.

Dinner at Le Petit Chef is a must. The show is cute but really the meal is wonderful. It's never crowded so the chef is cooking for a small group. We went the first night (with a discount) and there were 12 of us in the whole restaurant. Lack of staff made the whole experience long and drawn out (over 3 hours for the 2 of us). We had a reservation but had to wait because the group in front of us couldn't find a table they liked.

Literally we watched them sit, take menus and then get up to move tables... So we waited almost 25 minutes for our table for 2. Then the waiter came right over and said "do you know what you want" we were like ummm no we haven't opened the menus, how about a cocktail first?

The crew was constantly cleaning. Cleaning the stairwells, the pool deck, the Oceanview Cafe, the casino. Public areas were very well maintained. I could tell some carpets were new, some cabins updated ( I did look into a suite on our floor and it had new carpet, bedding and beautiful dark cherry finishes). It seems they continue to work on updates as they are sailing. I am sorry we don't have any of the planners.

The Ultimate Guide To A Northern Lights Cruise: How To See The Stunning Natural Phenomenon

best time to cruise alaska to see northern lights 2023

Norwegian Cruise Line kicks off the 2024 Alaska cruise season when Norwegian Bliss sets sail on a weeklong, roundtrip itinerary from Seattle; she will be the only ship sailing in Alaska the first two weeks of spring. Balcony cabins are still available on the season’s inaugural sailing at a discounted fare of $1,029 per person. We sailed roundtrip from Juneau, and while I’ve visited the capital city during the busy summer months, I found the restaurants, bars, and shops much less crowded, reliably filled with locals for the most part. On the water, we rarely passed any other ships or boats, aside from fishermen out for their catches. Alaska is a special place to cruise because it’s very different from standard tropical cruise destinations.

When the northern lights do appear, "more than likely the ship will turn off most of the exterior lights," Weber says. "But you can prepare as soon as you board the ship by scouting out the darkest spot outside, and up top on the ship." That may be away from the ship stairways and public rooms. Seeing the northern lights on a cruise isn’t guaranteed (although at least one cruise line, Hurtigruten, does issue a guarantee for certain cruises. See below). But you will increase your odds of seeing the northern lights by being in the right place in the Arctic Circle at the right time.

You can book nonstop flights to Anchorage year-round from major U.S. hubs (like Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Portland), so you can get here in just a few hours—no passport required. The Geophysical Institute also recommends Haystack Mountain and Ester, Wickersham and Murphy domes on its website. Chena Lake Recreation Area is a popular place to look for reflections in the water (you can park your car near the jetty). At nearby Chena Hot Springs Resort, you can even watch the show from an outdoor hot tub. By day, try your hand at either cross-country skiing or ice fishing through pre-drilled ice holes.

If you are planning a trip to Alaska, make sure you have a tour guide for you upon reaching the state. They will know remote and off-beaten tracks with less ambient lights from where the lights can be seen prominently. You can increase your chances of seeing these lights by booking yourself multi-day viewing packages as well. These packages come with meals and overnight stays at remote lodges or homestays, built specifically for viewing the northern lights so that you can gaze at them all night long in your luxury.

Best Time of Year to See the Northern Lights in Alaska

As August winds down, fall colors explode across the mountains, giving you gorgeous landscapes to explore by ship, train and foot. Down south, the waters around the southwestern and southcentral regions of Alaska teem with ships visiting Kodiak Island, the Aleutian Islands, Prince William Sound and Katmai National Park. The Borealis is composed of solar particles shooting into the magnetic field of the earth and appear more than 60 miles above the earth's surface. Natives have believed the lights have a mystical force or even marked the appearance of spirits who have passed on. Onboard dining is a highlight, with meals crafted from locally sourced, sustainable ingredients.

New to cruising

Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a photography enthusiast, or simply someone captivated by the beauty of celestial displays, an Alaska cruise will provide you with an unforgettable experience. Welcome to the enchanting world of the Northern Lights, where nature puts on a breathtaking light show like no other. If you’re seeking an unforgettable experience, look no further than an Alaskan cruise to witness the spectacle of the Aurora Borealis. Alaska, with its vast wilderness and clear skies, offers some of the best opportunities to catch a glimpse of this mesmerizing phenomenon. The warming weather even allows cruise ships to penetrate Arctic waters, giving you the opportunity to see polar bears on Wrangel Island.

By choosing the right time of year, monitoring solar activity, and selecting an optimal cruise route, you can maximize your chances of experiencing this magical natural phenomenon. To maximize your chance of witnessing the northern lights, get off the boat and join a land excursion to Fairbanks. The aurora season in Fairbanks lasts from the end of August to April and the lights can be seen four out of five nights if the sky is clear. One of the benefits of sailing to Alaska later in the year is that it increases the chance of seeing the breathtaking Northern Lights, as these are much more likely to be witnessed during the fall and winter months.

Planning your trip during periods of high solar activity, when the sun is generating more charged particles, increases your chances of experiencing a more vibrant and active display of the Northern Lights. To help you select the ideal time for your trip, the following guide will introduce you to weather and attraction differences between the months. Then we’ll wrap up by answering some frequently asked questions about Alaskan cruises — the best time to see whales and northern lights, the best time for salmon fishing and similar queries. Although the full viewing season spans from March to September, you'll have the greatest chance of witnessing the Borealis' emergence in September, when skies are so much darker than during the summer cruise season.

An unobstructed sight of the Northern Lights is relatively rare, which makes it even more remarkable when you do have the opportunity to witness this phenomenon. We’ll provide you with comprehensive information on how to see the Northern Lights during your Alaska cruise. These grades are marked with numbers (like for balcony cabins - B1, B2, B3, B4) and are displayed on the deck layouts with different colors. Those seeking even more space will want to ask a travel agent about the "Ultra Spacious Ocean View" cabins available on select ships. These staterooms are great for families, as they offer approximately 300 square feet of space.

Similarly, Haley found the cabin’s size to be adequate, noting there was extra space for getting ready in the evenings due to the ship’s interesting layout. Marcy enjoyed her cabin’s location, as it was located right near the elevator yet was surprisingly quiet. It provided easy access to the ice skating show in Studio B, and the cabin’s lower deck location wasn’t prone to any ship movement.

Suites on these ships offer the most benefits and highest level of service, split across three tiers of benefits. A Boardwalk balcony room offers 182 square feet of living space, with a private balcony between 47 and 52 square feet. The Central Park balconies offer the same fresh air and light that ocean view balconies do but with the opportunity to enjoy the ambiance of Central Park along with the people watching aspect. In addition, Central Park view balcony staterooms are often slightly cheaper than ocean balconies.

There’s also a stylish separate master suite where parents can escape. Each of these bigger ocean-view cabins has two twin beds that can convert into a royal king bed, one double sofa bed and either one Pullman bed and one twin bed or two Pullman beds. Central Park facing balconies tend to be cheaper than Boardwalk balconies, simply because many Boardwalk staterooms still have glimpses of an ocean view through the aft of the ship. Both Central Park and Boardwalk balconies are 182 square feet with a 52 square foot balcony. The most popular stateroom category on Royal Caribbean ships are balcony cabins because they are an affordable way to get enough living space, fresh air, and private outdoor space.
